THIS ISN’T THE CHILDREN’S GAME YOU REMEMBER.

Our community is open to all skills, abilities, genders, and competitiveness. Learn how to play, or hone your skills: there’s a game for everyone.

The Rules

There are really only two rules that matter. The rest is just semantics.

We are Adults . . .

Some games have refs, some don’t. More than perhaps any other sport, we rely on the honor code to keep games fair and fun. Play like the adult that you are:

  • If you think you’re out, go out.

  • If you think the thing you felt was just the air of the ball passing your leg but you’re not sure, go out

  • If you think your teammate is out, tell them they’re out.

  • If you think you’re out and no one saw it and you can get away with it, GO OUT.

. . . playing a Children's game

Play with the levity and joy that comes with that knowledge. Wear costumes, play with your opposite hand, try something different and new. Please try to maintain a level head and a positive attitude at all times. Aggressive, violent, and threatening behavior will not be tolerated at any time.

Watch before playing

The following video (not ours) does a pretty good job of reviewing the basics of how to play dodgeball. Something to keep in mind is that every league plays a little bit differently, and Bend Dodgeball is no exception to that rule. After watching this short video, note the few rules differences below.

While Bend Dodgeball is in the process of developing our own “How To Play” video, keep in mind the following rule differences between our league, and the league in this video:

  • We play with SEVEN balls (not six).

  • We play with up to 15 players per team.

  • Headshots DO NOT COUNT, and will instead result in the throwing player being “out”. Exception to this rule is if you lean into or duck into the ball. Repeatedly throwing head height (whether contact is made or not), will result in removal from the game.

FAQ

Questions from DROP IN PLAYERS

How much does it cost to drop in for the evening?Drop in players are $10 per evening and must check in at 6:30pm. We do not allow drop-in players to check in at 7:30pm.Can I play with my friends who are already on a team? The ability to request a team to play on is a benefit of season registration and we encourage you to sign up next season if you have a strong preference for specific teams or teammates. We will place you on a team that needs your skills and abilities most, and as such we cannot accommodate specific team requests. What if I'm just "swapping" for an existing season player that already paid and can't make it tonight? We don't allow direct swaps of players and drop in players will still need to pay the $10 admittance for the evening. How much playing time do drop in players get?One of the two courts at 6:30pm is drop-in only. At 7:30pm, we do an assessment of what teams might need some drop in players to fill in for absent players, accounting for skill equity, numbers balance, etc...

Questions from SEASON PLAYERS

We have an absent player on our team for a game, can I bring a friend to play for us?While we do place drop ins on existing teams that are low on numbers, we do so based on a variety of factors: skill equivalence, numbers balance, etc... and as such we do not permit specific team requests. We can promise that your friend will be placed on an awesome team, (and sometimes, it's more fun to face off against friends!)A reminder that the ability to choose your teammates and play with your friends is a major benefit of season registration; we cannot honor team requests for drop in players. Can I drop in for more playing time as a season player?Season Players that have games scheduled at 7:30pm can play as a drop-in player at 6:30pm for an extra hour of play. Unfortunately, we do not have enough court space to offer the same to 6:30pm scheduled players.
